Like most of this developing nation there is great need for schools and vocational training centres providing key skills that help combat poverty and unemployment. Projects need to be ultimately self sustaining through enterprises that draw on local resources and are serviced by members of the local community. Many of the children and young people are without parents or any available family, having escaped genocide in the north of the country or now left alone following the scourge of AIDS that still claims many lives daily. As a charity we were offered 27 acres to build a school with additional vocational provision for young people, giving them essential skills for gainful employment when they leave as young adults. The soil is rich and fertile, capable of sustaining many nutritious crops for both local consumption and for sale in the nearby town of Masaka Inergy UK Ltd staff supported and advised workers in the field on the design and construction of our first school block, which includes two large classrooms and an ancillary room. They advised us on options for renewable energy sources and how the land could be used for income generating sustainable agricultural enterprises. With their essential help in August 2007 our first school block was completed and opened catering for 100 children and young people. We are hoping to build more school blocks in the near future, each being supplied by renewable energy systems as advised by Inergy UK Ltd, who have offered their continued valuable input. Their support has proved an essential and streamlined provision without which the Butale school would not have been completed. The completion of the first school block is a testimony in itself of their efficiency and technical competence with a defined budget which has not been exceeded.'
